It is likely that your tour operator offers you to stay in the neighborhood of Bocagrande and then show you beautiful hotels facing the sea, with beaches in front of the hotel and cheaper ... But in Cartagena the beaches are not beautiful. So, even if you have to pay a few dollars more, decide to be close to where you need to be, that is: inside the walled city. Your stay in Cartagena does not need to be more than 3 days and in any case, if you are also interested in the Caribbean beaches you can go to San Andres and there if you do beaches because there are not many more things to do.

Cartagena is to be lived from the inside ... and in that case there are 2 beautiful hotels: the Sofitel Bovedas de Santa Clara and the Charleston Santa Teresa. At the first opportunity I stayed at the Sofitel and it is a great hotel in the San Diego neighborhood, although it is a little far from downtown. But the second time I was at the Charleston that is much better located geographically. You will be there, in the heart of a city that has the charm of the colonial cities and from its wall and looking at the immensity of the sea you can imagine what would be felt by those who should defend the city from the constant attacks of pirates, buccaneers and filibusters of all the nationalities that occur to you. One problem is that all the streets have different names, but you will be better placed if you help by having the map of the old city handy that I will attach to you later.
